Special features of the aircraft hangar:
- This building, which houses two aircraft hangars, features Murox ventilated thermal panels (VTP) on the structure’s southern face that capture solar energy and preheat outside air as a means of reducing heating costs.
- VTPs are expected to generate approximately $9,300 in annual energy savings.
- Exterior finish consists of Murox factory-installed metal cladding.
- The building frame is composed of Murox shop-fabricated load-bearing wall panels as well as conventional steel structures.
- Certain longspan joists measure up to 160 ft. (48 m).
- The main girder measures approximately 200 ft. (61 m) and weighs 190 tons.
- This facility is used as a flight testing hub.
- This structure is the first of six buildings that will be built for Pratt & Whitney Canada.
