A graduate of the University of Sherbrooke with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Civil Engineering, Sylvio Poirier began his career as an engineer-programmer with Canam Steel Works in 1985. His first years were spent developing computer programs specifically tailored to joist design. For more than 12 years, Sylvio held varied positions of increasing responsibility, and in 1998 joined The Canam Manac Group where he assumed responsibility for the development of joist products. A person who thrives on challenges, Sylvio eventually took on the coordination and implementation of joist engineering systems for all company plants as well as for their business partners. In 2005, Sylvio was appointed to the position of Technical Manager, Product Development. His responsibilities include the development of engineering tools for the company’s web site.
Sylvio is a member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec and sits on the executive committee of the Quebec chapter of the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering (CSCE). He is also a member of the composite joist committee of the Steel Joist Institute (SJI) in the United States.
