A graduate of the Université Laval with a degree in Civil Engineering, Pierre Gignac began his career with Canam in 1978 as a project engineer and was subsequently appointed to the position of chief engineer. Early in his career, Pierre was responsible for the design of open-web joists and the implementation of a joist calculation computer program. After spending two years in the United States, Pierre returned to Montreal in 1989 to join Canam’s structural steel team, and then in 1995 took on the responsibility of coordinating the design, drafting and fabrication of the structural steel and equipment intended for all Canam plants in North America. Since 2003, Pierre has been concentrating his efforts on special projects and overseeing the technical support provided to customers and structural engineers in connection with Canam products. He is also involved in the engineering activities of Canam International.
Pierre is a member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec and a fellow of the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering (CSCE). He plays an active role within the Steel Deck Institute (SDI) in the United States, currently serving as chairman of the technical committee on diaphragms, and is equally active within the Canadian Sheet Steel Building Institute (CSSBI). Pierre is also a member of the expert panel of the Canadian Institute of Steel Construction (CISC) and is an occasional guest speaker at CISC functions.
