Dr. Mark Gorgolewski, B.Sc., M.Sc., Ph.D., Dip Arch, is a graduate of University College in London, Cranfield University, and Oxford Brookes University in Oxford where he completed his Ph.D. thesis on energy-efficient housing. He is a registered architect in the United Kingdom and has worked for many years as an environmental consultant to the construction industry. Dr. Gorgolewski has published several books and many articles and papers on sustainable design. He serves on the board of the Canada Green Building Council and is a LEED Accredited Professional. He is also past chair of the Association for Environment Conscious Building in the UK.
Dr. Gorgolewski is currently a professor in the Department of Architectural Science at Ryerson University and is Ryerson’s program director for the Master of Building Science program. He lectures and researches on sustainable built environments, resource-efficient design and building science. He has received many grants from public and private institutions to investigate sustainable construction issues. Currently, his areas of research include sustainable housing, the impact of urban agriculture on building design, building performance assessment, and reuse of resources. He was coordinator for one of the winning teams in the CMHC Equilibrium Housing Competition to design a sustainable, net zero energy housing development as well as co-recipient of the 2007-2008 ACSA/AIA Housing Design Education Award.
