Demonstrating its commitment to serving the architectural community, Canam Canada is proud to offer a wide range of services and solid expertise gained from working with building designers for the past 50 years.
Customized solutions
Granted, the construction of superstores and typical commercial buildings usually requires steel joists and girders. Yet, it is the unique versatility of these components that allows designers to think outside the box to achieve daring shapes. In fact, they can explore various steel characteristics to highlight particular architectural elements or create surprising visual effects.
Special shapes
Looking for an attractive solution to enhance an atrium, a lobby or some other open space? The possibilities are endless. All you have to do is imagine the concepts or special shapes and leave us to do the rest!
The role of our Canam experts is to help you turn ideas into reality. Curved lines, for example, will add a distinctive touch to the geometry of your building.

Specific applications
What function will the girders or joists serve in your project?
- Will they be left exposed to act as a decorative element?
- Will they be horizontal, vertical, diagonal?
- Will they be structural and feature a spectacular span to produce a vast interior space devoid of structural columns?
Every project presents an opportunity to innovate, to showcase your vision and creativity. Transforming a standard joist into an ingenious concept is something only an architect can dream up.

Versatile material
In addition to lending itself particularly well to green construction, steel is highly compatible with other materials. Depending on the visual effect desired, architects have the luxury of pairing steel with concrete, wood or glass.
Steel is a material of choice that can be used in a variety of shapes and finishes to create clean lines or stunning contrasts with different textures at play. For more information, consult the article Steel, a material of choice in the Sustainable development section of our website.

Complementary products
Canam has added a number of alternatives to its range of steel deck products. We now distribute Versa-Dek®, produced by Metal Dek Group®, a unit of CSi® (Consolidated Systems Inc.). With its unique dovetail shape, Versa-Dek® has the advantage of concealing attachment systems. This feature provides a smooth, clean, aesthetic appearance.
When it comes to more functional applications, using Deep-Dek® makes it possible to increase the spacing between the supporting members, while at the same time fulfilling structural needs. These two metal deck profiles are offered in acoustical and cellular versions. For more information, consult the articles on Versa-Dek® and Deep-Dek® on our website.
