Canam Canada lands contract for Penny Lane development in Calgary

Canam Canada won the contract to fabricate nearly 1,225 tons of steel deck for the first phase of the Penny Lane development in downtown Calgary from steel fabricator Supermetal Structures Inc. The steel deck for this major project consisting of a 49-storey commercial tower will cover an area of more than 1,125,750 square feet (343,130 m²).

The steel deck will be fabricated in the Calgary plant, and deliveries will begin in 2009. Canam will also be supplying 87,450 lineal feet of concrete angle closures (“pour stops”) as part of its contract. Technyx, a business unit of Canam Group, will collaborate with Canam Canada on this project.

According to the architectural firm that designed this huge project, the look of the towers is a “geological metaphor for the Rocky Mountains”.
