Youth of Distinction Awards ceremony in the Beauce

Daniel Fecteau, Chief Engineer at Canam St. Gédéon, named Young Entrepreneur of the Year

The title of Young Entrepreneur of the Year was conferred on Daniel Fecteau, chief engineer with Canam St. Gédéon’s joist department, during the Gala distinction jeunesse. The first edition of the Youth of Distinction Awards for the Beauce-South region was launched by the local youth employment center, Carrefour jeunesse emploi de Beauce-Sud, to reward the efforts and achievements of young people between the ages of 16 and 35 as well as recognize their contribution to the vitality of their region and community.

“Daniel’s greatest strength is knowing his limits and always wanting to push the boundaries,” said Sébastien Paré, Canam’s engineering and drafting manager for Eastern Canada and also Daniel’s supervisor. “He’s not shy about asking for advice. He listens to what you have to say and learns from it. His genuine desire to improve has helped him gain respect quickly as a supervisor.”

Eighteen finalists in six categories attended the ceremony. Among the nearly 50 nominees, besides Daniel, were two other employees of Canam Group, namely: Isabelle Messier, civil engineer at St. Gédéon, in the “Young Employed Graduate” category and Lyne Rouleau, training advisor based in St. Georges, in the “Young Explorer” category. It is interesting to note that the winner in the latter category is Sarah Brousseau, the daughter of Jocelyne Fortier and Pierre Brousseau, both employees at Canam St. Gédéon.

“Many of our employees earn the accolades of their peers for excellence in their field of endeavor,” stated Claude Provost, vice president of human resources at Canam Group, adding that “It’s a thrill for us to see our employees achieve great things that are recognized by people outside the company!”
